Greeting of the Director of the State Museum - Humanitarian Centre «Overcoming» of N. A. Ostrovsky Olga Ilyinichna Devicheva to Participants of the Project «Portrait of the Russian Fine Word» 2016

The museum center "Preodoleniye" («Overcoming») of N. A. Ostrovsky with pleasure welcomes organizers and participants of the remarkable art project "Portrait of the Russian Fine Word" at the address: Tverskaya Street, 14.

Portrait of the Russian Fine Word

It is especially honourable to arrange an exhibition in 2016 – in a year of the 250 anniversary since the birth of N. M. Karamzin especially as the lines of his works sounded in our house repeatedly. They were said by contemporaries of the outstanding Russian historian and the writer.

The house where our museum is located is a memorial of architecture and history of XVIII-XX centuries, which destiny is connected with many outstanding people of our Fatherland. Constructed by the great Russian architect Matvei Kazakov for the widow of the secretary of state of Catherine II G. Kozitsky – Ekaterina Ivanovna Kozitskaya, the house endured the fire of 1812 and for a long time remained one of the most beautiful buildings on Tverskaya Street.

The princess Zinaida Aleksandrovna Volkonskaya lived there from 1824 to 1829. Color of the Russian culture gathered on her literary and musical salons daily. Conversations about art, about the future of Russia were conducted there. Authors acquainted others with novelties of their compositions. A.S. Pushkin who was attracted by free, inspired, deeply intellectual and friendly atmosphere liked to spend time there.

"History of the Russian State" by N. M. Karamzin was repeatedly read there.

Due to the issue of «History of the Russian State», against interest in society in ancient history, feeling the blood relations with an ancient princely family of princes Beloselsky, the princess devoted herself to studying of life of Slavs in Russia before Kiev period. Zinaida Aleksandrovna Volkonskaya was elected as the honorary member of Society of fans of the Russian literature and Society of the Russian history and antiquities, was deeply interested in the Russian history. She was known not only as the owner of salon of high society and the eminent cultural person, she by right is considered one of outstanding authors of the era. She possesses the poem "Legend on Olga" and the story "Slavic Picture of the 5th Century" representing life and customs of primitive pagan Slavs.

We are very glad that thanks to the art project "Portrait of the Russian Fine Word" in our museum there will be again images cast by great work of the historian, that this subject is interesting to masters of the modern art again.

Portrait of the Russian Fine Word

We have something to lean on, expanding the concept «overcoming». We connect it with cultural and historical Memory.
